Pennpack Trail

The lower portion of the Pennypack Trail is a 2.4-mile rail-trail located mostly in Lorimer Park. Converted from the old Fox Chase-Newton Branch line, this trail runs from Rockledge Borough on the Philadelphia/Montgomery County boundary, north to Huntingdon Pike (Route 232) in Abington Township.  It provides scenic views of the Pennypack Creek, cliffs, and woodlands of the park.  The southern portion of the trail connects to miles of Lorimer Park’s internal hiking trails.  Long-term connections are planned to include Rockledge Borough Park, Fairmount Park’s Fox Chase Farm, and Pennypack Park in the south.  The plans heading north include local trail/sidewalk connections to Lower Moreland Township, Upper Moreland Township, and Bryn Athyn.
